The Design Your Own system works the same way the best online jewelers operate: you choose a setting (the ring without the center diamond) and a certified loose diamond separately. We then set the diamond into the ring at our facility and ship the finished piece to you. Because you are buying the components separately, there is no markup on the assembled ring — you pay the setting price plus the diamond price, period.
Step 1: Choose Your Setting
Start at our Design Your Own page or browse our engagement ring collection. When you view a DYO-eligible ring, you will see the semi-mount price — that is the cost of the setting alone (the ring with all its side stones and metalwork, but without the center diamond).
Each setting specifies which diamond shapes it accepts (e.g., round, oval, cushion) and the carat range that fits properly. This ensures a perfect fit when we assemble the ring.
Tip: If you already know what shape diamond you want, start with the setting. This narrows your diamond search to only stones that will fit. If you already have a diamond in mind, start there and we will show compatible settings.
Step 2: Select Your Certified Diamond
After choosing a setting, click “Choose Your Certified Diamond” to open our diamond search. The search is automatically filtered to show only diamonds that fit your setting — the right shapes and carat range.
Every diamond in our inventory is independently graded by GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or IGI (International Gemological Institute). You can view the full grading report for any diamond, including:
- Cut grade (Excellent, Very Good, Good)
- Color grade (D through K)
- Clarity grade (FL through SI2)
- Carat weight (exact to the hundredth)
- Measurements, depth %, table %, symmetry, polish, fluorescence
Use our filters to narrow by price range, carat weight, color, clarity, and cut grade. Sort by price, carat weight, or value to find the best diamond for your budget.
Step 3: Review & Purchase
When you select a diamond, you are taken to the review page where you see the setting and diamond side by side with the combined total price. This page shows:
- Setting details: style, metal, side stone weight
- Diamond details: shape, carat, color, clarity, cut, cert number
- Combined price: setting + diamond = total (no additional fees)
Click “Add All to Cart” to add the complete ring to your shopping cart. Both the setting and diamond are reserved together — they ship as one finished ring, not two separate items.
Step 4: Assembly & Delivery
After you complete your purchase, here is what happens behind the scenes:
- Diamond sourcing: Your certified diamond is pulled from our supplier network and shipped to our facility (1–3 business days).
- Setting preparation: Your setting is cast in the metal you selected and finished by our jewelers.
- Diamond setting: A master setter secures your diamond into the setting using the appropriate technique for the design (prong, bezel, or tension).
- Quality inspection: The finished ring is inspected under magnification for alignment, prong security, and finish quality.
- Shipping: The ring is packaged in a presentation box and shipped fully insured with tracking. Most orders arrive within 5–10 business days.
Note: Design Your Own orders take slightly longer than pre-set rings because each ring is assembled to order. If you need a ring by a specific date, contact us and we will confirm whether your timeline is achievable.
