Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about fancy colored diamonds.

Are your colored diamonds natural or lab-created? +
Every fancy colored diamond in our inventory is 100% natural and earth-mined. We do not sell lab-created or treated colored diamonds. Each stone comes with an independent GIA certificate verifying its natural color origin.
What determines the value of a colored diamond? +
Color intensity is the single biggest factor — a Fancy Vivid diamond can be worth 10× more than a Fancy Light of the same size. After intensity, rarity of the color matters: pink, blue and green diamonds are far rarer than yellow or brown. Carat weight, clarity and cut also play a role, but color dominates pricing in the fancy world.
How does GIA grade fancy colored diamonds? +
GIA evaluates three characteristics: hue (the dominant color), tone (how light or dark the color is), and saturation (how strong or vivid the color appears). These combine into an intensity grade on a scale from Faint to Fancy Vivid. The certificate also states whether the color is of natural origin or has been treated. Learn more in our certification guide.
Are colored diamonds a good investment? +
Fancy colored diamonds have historically appreciated in value, particularly vivid pinks, blues and greens. At auction, rare colored diamonds regularly set world records. However, like any investment, values can fluctuate. We recommend buying a colored diamond primarily because you love it — and letting any appreciation be a bonus.
Which colored diamond is best for an engagement ring? +
Yellow diamonds are the most popular choice for engagement rings — they offer stunning color at accessible prices, and their warm glow pairs beautifully with both yellow gold and platinum settings. Pink diamonds are increasingly sought-after for their romantic symbolism. All fancy colored diamonds rate 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, making them perfectly durable for everyday wear. Use our Design Your Own Ring tool to pair a colored diamond with your ideal setting.
Do you offer free shipping and returns on colored diamonds? +
Yes. Every colored diamond ships free with full insurance via a secure, trackable carrier. We also offer a 30-day money-back guarantee — if you are not completely satisfied, return your diamond for a full refund. Learn more about our return policy.
